Art Therapy is the deliberate use of art to meet psychological needs. It is not only to teach art techniques, but to bring about the release of a client’s conflicts, inner thoughts and fantasies through graphic expression. Art therapy is an alternate means of communication and a creative experience that promotes maturation and intellectual growth. It is the use of visual arts as a healing technique. This exhibit celebrates the 2023 licensure of Art Therapy in the state of Ohio. For more information, visit the American Art Therapy Association at arttherapy.org.

The Permanent Collection

The Little Art Gallery is home to a permanent collection of original art by area artists and artists whose work has had an impact on our artistic community. In 1944, the Little Art Gallery acquired the first piece of its permanent collection, donated by the Women’s Club of North Canton. Since then, the collection has grown to include more than 200 pieces.

The oldest piece in our on-site collection is “Flowers on Bible”, by artist Ferdinand A. Brader. This piece was created in 1892 and was acquisitioned by the Little Art Gallery in 2015, in conjunction with the exhibit “The Legacy of Ferdinand A. Brader.”

About the Little Art Gallery
