Senior Center Programming
In 2022, the North Canton Public Library worked with the City of North Canton to open a senior center at the North Canton Civic Center.
Since then, each Tuesday and Thursday, the library’s Senior Center Programming has become a cornerstone of community engagement, fostering connections among older adults in North Canton.
The North Canton Senior Center is a vibrant, twice-weekly gathering that’s changing lives and redefining what senior programming looks like.

Each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the North Canton Civic Center comes to life. We start with fitness at 10—think chair yoga, tai chi, or chair pilates. Then at noon, we shift into enrichment and social programs that are anything but ordinary. We had record attendance when we welcomed a UFO researcher. We’ve explored the art and meaning of tattoos too—and our seniors proudly rocked full temporary sleeves.
But beyond the fun, something deeper is happening with the 40+ attendees each day: real friendships are forming. People are connecting, laughing, and learning together.
This all began with a desire to help meet a need we saw in our community. Like many libraries, we were limited by space. But four years ago, our newly elected mayor expressed interest in launching a senior center. That’s when the lightbulb went off: what if we combined forces? The city had an underused civic center, and we had the programming know-how and a lot of passion.
Together, we made it happen.
The program’s continued success relies on collaborations with organizations such as the City of North Canton, Walsh University, and Direction Home.
The North Canton Public Library’s mission is to serve the community and enhance the quality of life for our patrons. Through Senior Center Programming, we aim to establish lifelong relationships, reflecting the changing needs of our community.
